This print is a reflection on the tear in the fabric of
life. The figure embodies not only her own
woundedness, but the wounds of all women,
children and men - the wounds of the earth herself.
Not diminished by the pain, the torn woman with
head held high, walks with determination moving
with hope into the light.
At times of passage we realize that God does not
leave us alone but sends midwives to accompany us
and assists us on our journey. This painting reflects
on the circle of women with whom God enfolds us as
we experience the births and death of body, mind and
spirit. The grandmothers who have gone before us as
well as the soul-sisters with whom we walk today, are
the wise ones who stand beside us, believe in us,
challenge and encourage us.
This painting reflects on the words of Psalm 139,
"I formed you and I know you. I knot you together in
your mother's womb." This same wise and gentle God,
this ancient weaver who knows and accepts us as none
other, continues to knit within each of us, mending the
tears in the fabric of our lives, gently weaving the soft
fibers of our being.
Water is a very powerful image of God.
Sometimes we long to rest on the shore of
the Holy and BE with the Mystery of God.
Stripped of all pretense, we are called to sit
and wonder, watch and wait as we are
washed by the waves of the unconditional
love of God and calmed by the faithful
rythms of the sea.
As the evening enfolds the earth, we are invited to
listen to the whispers of night. The moon softly
speaks her wisdom of rhythm and change, while the
gentle breeze coaxes us to rest. In the calm and the
quiet we hear the whispers of God inviting us to
release the noises of our day, assuring us that we are
gently held in loving arms. The whispers lill us with
the echoes of Psalm 46, "Be still. Know that I am God."
Gentle, loving, wise and strong, sometimes
God is like a Gramma. Grandmother figures
in our lives can serve as wonderful mirrors
of the Holy. They reflect a God who is warm
and welcoming, full of wisdom and
experience, a soft lap of safety. This image
celebrates a God filled with hugs, treats and
treasures who invites us to come in, come
home and be happy!
Grounded in water and earth, we, like the trees are
connected to our mother. With roots deep in the earth,
we are called to rest in her shelter where we don't have to
say or do anything, just BE. Here we can know the
nurtuance and comfort of a God who surrounds us in
warmth and wisdom in this sheltering womb, a constant
Presence in our darkness and our light.
Dawn is a wonderful metaphor for the faithful presence
of the Holy. Inspired by the Jessica Power's poem, "In
Her Morning," this painting reflects on the Mystery of
God that accompanies us through the rhythms of the
days and nights of our lives. In the radiancy of the dawn
as well as in the nest of night, we can depend on the
knowing and loving glance of God that surrounds and
supports us.
